Introducing Hero: our new communication platform
We are excited to introduce Hero, our new home-school communication platform and free parent app.
Hero is a secure, easy to use online platform that brings together school communication in one place. It allows kaiako and whānau to connect, share information, and stay up to date anytime, anywhere, using any device.
Through Hero, you will be able to:
● Read and comment on updates shared by your child’s kaiako.
● Notify the school if your child is absent or late and provide a reason.
● Access links to our school website.
● Personalise your account with a profile image.
● Choose how you would like to receive notifications.
Additional Hero features will be introduced over time as we become more familiar with the platform. Hero will replace your team’s 2026 Facebook page and will also take the place of Seesaw, which has been used in previous years.
One of the great benefits of Hero is that you only need to create and sign in to your account once, and it will remain with your child throughout their time at Te Kura o Manunui.
Kaiako can share information with the whole class or communicate directly with individual whānau regarding their tamaiti/child.
We look forward to using Hero to strengthen communication. For more information about Hero, including how to log in, please visit the Hero website or contact your child’s classroom teacher for assistance.

Lockdown Drill
We have a drill to ensure everyone knows what to do if there is an emergency. The drill allows us to check our instructions are correct and to make students feel safe in case of emergency.
In readiness for a drill, kaiako go over the procedure that will be followed, answering questions and making sure that the children feel comfortable about the drill.
Following the drill, teachers take a “Mindfulness Session,” to relax and refocus the tamariki. There may be a follow-up discussion about how the class performed the drill.
Knowing that a drill is coming up, this may give your whānau an opportunity to discuss emergency plans and prepare tamariki for the practice.
Teacher Only Day
School will be closed on this day. Kids Inc will be open, please contact them to book your child in.
Pink Shirt Day
Each year we celebrate Pink Shirt Day, raising awareness about standing up to bullying. The tamariki will be doing their part to eliminate bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion. The tamariki are encouraged to wear something pink.
No donation is needed, its more an awareness campaign that bullying is not okay!
